Arkansas Psychiatric Society Annual Conference
April 6 @ 8:00 am - 4:00 pm CDT
The Arkansas Psychiatric Society, in conjunction with the American Psychiatric Association, is proud to announce “Opioids & Cannabinoids: Novel Therapeutics or Just Another Buzz?” as the theme for our 2019 conference.
The opioid epidemic in the US is a public health crisis that has claimed thousands of lives in overdose deaths; 47.600 in 2017 up from 8000 in 1999. States and communities are grappling with understanding the nature and magnitude of this crisis and how best to understand and deal with this epidemic. Medical Marijuana is legal in 33 states, and 13 others allow restricted medicinal use, despite the Federal Government’s position of its illegality. Given the controversy of risks versus benefits of medical marijuana use, states are still figuring out how best to determine and implement policies governing use, and clinicians need to know the current state of the science behind its use.
Join us as we welcome two nationally renowned addiction experts and four experts from Arkansas who will share the latest regulatory practices of medical marijuana and opioids with the latest research on these two controversial treatments.
