AMS believes that medical staffs across the state share common concerns and challenges yet have no venue to explore these issues with others going through the same issues. Examples include bylaws, call, employment issues, peer review, and self-governance. To that end, AMS is creating a committee to bring together a physician representative from each of Arkansas’ hospital medical staffs.
Letters were mailed several months ago to hospital chiefs of staff and already over 20 physicians have asked to participate. Membership is comprised of one physician representative from the medical staff of any Arkansas hospital. It could be the chief of staff or another physician elected by the medical staff or appointed by the chief of staff or medical staff executive committee. It is likely the group will meet once or twice per year with most communications taking place via email. An initial meeting is being planned for some time in the next two months.
