A vacancy will occur December 31, 2013, on the Arkansas State Medical Board. The Medical Board consists of fourteen members appointed by the Governor for six-year terms. Ten of those members are physicians appointed upon the recommendation of the Arkansas Medical Society representing each of the four congressional districts (2 from each district) and two at-large members. The Arkansas State Medical Board is empowered to license and regulate the practice of medicine, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, physician assistants, and radiology assistants. The board receives and reviews complaints against each type of medical profession it licenses. Board meetings are held in Little Rock on the first Thursday and Friday of every other month.
Member at Large
Nominees for this position must practice in the state of Arkansas and remain in active (defined as full-time) practice of medicine for the duration of their term. Terms are for six years and members may serve a maximum of two terms. The position is currently held by Omar Atiq, MD, of Little Rock, who is eligible for reappointment.
Recommendations for this position will be made to the Arkansas Medical Society Board of Trustees in November. Three names for this position will be submitted to the Governor for his selection.
