2023 Legislative Session in Full Swing

The 94th General Assembly has started and although it appears to be off to a slow start, there has been a lot of activity behind the scenes.

PRIOR AUTHORIZATION

The top priority for AMS this session is legislation for a prior authorization gold card. If passed, the legislation would make prior authorizations unnecessary for a certain amount of time if a physician meets a certain threshold of approvals for a particular medical service.

Bill specifics are still being worked on by AMS and Representative Lee Johnson, M.D. (Greenwood), who is the sponsor of the bill and also chairs the House Public Health Committee.

DOCTOR FOR THE DAY

We’re so thankful to have hosted four physicians as Doctors of the Day the past two weeks.

Each physician was recognized in both chambers, and helped see patients in the Legislative Infirmary.

AMS will host the next Advocacy: On Call virtual meeting on January 31 to discuss legislation filed and strategies to reach our legislative goals. Members – check your latest legislative update email for links to join the call.
