Naveen Patil, MD, and Robert Arrington, MD, Among Recognized Leaders in Public Health at Arkansas Medical Society’s 2026 Annual Meeting
LITTLE ROCK, AR – April 17, 2025 – The Arkansas Medical Society (AMS) held its President’s Gala and Annual Meeting on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Little Rock. A highlight of the celebration was the installation of Naveen Patil, MD, of Little Rock, as 2026–2027 AMS president. Naveen Patil, MD, MHSA, MA, FACP, FIDSA, is the deputy state health officer and the medical director for Infectious Diseases for the Arkansas Department of Health. He is passionate about the impact of public health on the citizens of Arkansas and equally dedicated to the mission of the Arkansas Medical
Society to empower physicians and improve Arkansas healthcare.
“AMS stands for physicians committed to quality healthcare and equitable access for all,” said Dr. Patil in his acceptance of the role of president. “Tonight, I see not only the legacy of AMS, but its limitless potential. Together, we will advance healthcare in Arkansas. Let us lead with integrity, act with courage, and remember that the measure of our leadership is not what we achieve for ourselves, but what we build together for others.”
Also honored during the presidential gala was Robert Arrington, MD, recipient of the 2026 Asklepian Award. This award recognizes an AMS member who promotes the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health, embodies the values of the medical profession, and serves the community through dedicated medical practice.
Dr. Arrington is an Arkansas native celebrated for his pediatric and neonatal medicine work, as well as his dedication to teaching and mentorship. Dr. Arrington earned his medical degree, residency, and fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine from UAMS. He served in the U.S. Air Force before building his academic career at UAMS in roles such as director of Neonatology, medical director of the NICU and Newborn Transport Service, chief of staff at Arkansas Children’s, and president of the Arkansas Perinatal Society.
The annual event also featured a substantial number of additional awards and brought together physicians, residents, healthcare leaders, and medical students from across the state for networking, education, and celebration. Attendees explored medical exhibits, reviewed poster presentations, and recognized advocacy, academic excellence, and lifetime contributions to the field of medicine in Arkansas.
