RESOURCES

“Antibiotics are powerful tools in the treatment of infections,” wrote Kelley Garner, epidemiology manager for the Arkansas Department of Health. “However, after only 80 years of use, their effectiveness is beginning to wane. Antibiotic resistance has been identified as a major public health threat … the CDC estimates that in the U.S., there are more than 3 million resistant infections and that 48,000 of those affected will die as a result.”

AMS physician members and other providers can watch for an article on antibiotic stewardship in the Fall 2025 issue of the Journal of the AMS. The article focuses on the outpatient clinical setting and includes expert insight from Ryan Dare, MD, an associate professor of medicine in the UAMS Infectious Diseases Division and medical director of the UAMS Antimicrobial Stewardship Program.
