AMS Leadership Meets With Arkansas Congressional Delegation
Tuesday, November 19, AMS leadership met with the entire Arkansas Congressional delegation in Washington, DC, to discuss issues of concern. Legislative Committee Chairman, Scott Ferguson, MD; past president Michael Moody, MD; immediate past president, Gene Shelby, MD; past president, Joe Stallings, MD and President-elect, Alan Wilson, MD; along with AMS EVP, David Wroten, and Director of Governmental Affairs, Scott Smith, encouraged the delegation to:
- Repeal the SGR. There is bi-partisan, bi-cameral support to finally get rid of it. Now is the time.
- Repeal the implementation of ICD-10 by supporting S. 972 in the Senate and H.R. 1701 in the House. This expansion of diagnostic coding from approximately 13,000 codes to 68,000 codes will not help patients or physicians. Senator Boozman is championing the issue by being an original co-sponsor of the bill to repeal implementation, S. 972 (Cutting Costly Codes Act of 2013).
- Oppose telemedicine-related House bills H.R. 2001 and H.R. 3077 that would allow medical practice across state lines without having to have a license in a state where a patient lives.
