In Memoriam – Scott Ferguson, MD

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 13, 2026
Today, the Arkansas Medical Society mourns the loss of one of our own.
E. Scott Ferguson, MD, former AMS president (2004-2005), has passed away. Dr. Ferguson was a former AMS Board of Trustees member, a former Arkansas State Representative, and a devoted friend to Arkansas physicians and patients. He was a current American Medical Association Delegate for the Society and had just completed a six-year term on the AMA Board of Trustees. In addition, Dr. Ferguson was a candidate for president of the AMA, in an election that would have been held in June of 2027.
During his time in the Arkansas Legislature, Dr. Ferguson championed the patients’ rights to choose their own physician and led the charge to pass Arkansas’s monumental Any Willing Provider legislation, formally called the Patient Protection Act.
The Society extends its deepest condolences to Deborah Ferguson, DDS – another dear friend to the AMS – as well as to Dr. Ferguson’s family, friends, and colleagues.
