Prescription Waiver for Disaster Declaration Counties

In April, intense storms and subsequent flooding ravaged parts of our state. The aftermath left Arkansans picking up the pieces. Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield wants to help members and is waiving prescription costs for Arkansans whose medications were lost as a result of the devastating weather beginning April 28, 2017.

The waiver applies to fully insured members in Arkansas whose pharmacy benefit plan is managed by Arkansas Blue Cross, including individual and group clients who are members of Arkansas Blue Cross and Health Advantage. The waiver includes on-and-off-exchange individuals and those who acquire care through Arkansas Works.

Members living in areas under a state disaster declaration who had prescription medications destroyed during weather events in Arkansas since April 28, are being asked to work with their pharmacist or call customer service (at the number located on the back of their health plan ID card) to get their prescription copayments/coinsurance waived for one refill (a maximum 30-day supply).

The waiver applies to current prescription medications as well as any medications prescribed as a result of the storms. Members who already may have had a prescription filled (since April 28) may be eligible for a refund by calling Arkansas Blue Cross. The waiver ends May 28.

Members who have lost their health plan ID card during the storms or flooding should call 1-800-238-8379.  Gov. Hutchinson has signed a disaster declaration for the following counties:
