AMS FOUNDATION ACCOMPLISHES 24-YEAR MISSION
The foundation was founded by the Arkansas Medical Society in 1989 and has utilized the volunteer services of many physicians throughout the state. The goal of the program was to deliver donated care in the same setting as those with insurance coverage, i.e., in the physician’s office.
Since then, volunteer physicians have donated care to Arkansas’ uninsured, valued at over $1,250,000.00. An estimated $8 million dollars in care has been provided through other volunteers such as pharmaceutical companies, dentists, pharmacists, advanced practice nurses, hospitals and podiatrists.
Thanks to the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the Arkansas Healthcare Independence Act of 2013, the people of Arkansas that were served for 25 years through this program are able to attain affordable health coverage. As a result, effective July 1, 2014, the foundation will no longer be in operation. To all of the physicians and others who have supported and volunteered their talents…..THANK YOU, JOB WELL DONE!!
