ELECTION NEWS IN THE SPOTLIGHT

The Arkansas Medical Society would like to congratulate Steve Magie, MD (AMS Immediate Past President) and Deborah Ferguson, DDS (spouse of AMS Past President and current Legislative Committee Chairman, Scott Ferguson, MD) on their election to the Arkansas House of Representatives. Dr. Magie has been assigned to the Judiciary Committee and will be representing House District 72 (Conway) while Dr. Ferguson has been assigned to the Public Health Committee and will be representing House District 51 (West Memphis).

In the State Senate, AMS is extremely pleased to report that incumbent State Senators Missy Thomas Irvin and Jonathan Dismang won their re-election bids and will be returning to serve on the Senate Public Health Committee. Both Senator Irvin (Mountain View), who represents Senate District 18 and Senator Dismang (Beebe), who represents Senate District 28, were tremendous advocates for AMS issues in the last session while serving on the Senate Public Health Committee.

And last, but certainly not least, AMS congratulates State Senator Cecile Bledsoe (Rogers), representing Senate District 3, who has been named Chairman of the Senate Public Health Committee. Senator Bledsoe has been a champion for the patients and physicians of Arkansas the last two sessions while serving on the Senate Public Health Committee and prior to that, while serving in the Arkansas House of Representatives (and on the House Public Health Committee) from 1999 to 2004.
